31 days: pumpkin scones

I finally got around to having pumpkin scones this morning. I actually made them last night, put them in the fridge and baked them this morning. That is one of the things I love about scones. I hate when I find breakfast recipes that have to be mixed up and then baked for 45 min THAT morning. I have to eat pretty soon after getting up and I don't like cooking when I'm that hungry or groggy!

Ok so the recipe for these scones can be found HERE.

The thing that I changed was the glaze. The recipe calls for a basic glaze made of powdered sugar and milk and then a spiced glaze on top of that. It was really pretty in the pictures, but it just sounded like too much work to me, plus I'm on this molasses kick. This is problematic because you can't get molasses here and we use it to make brown sugar. Sometimes we can buy brown sugar in Mwanza, but not Geita.  The last time I was in Dar the only molasses I could find was $17 a jar! Carson's mom brought us a couple of jars when she last visited, but now that I've discovered how much I like it, on everything, we're running out quick!
Here's what I did for the glaze:
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 Tbsp milk
1 Tbsp molasses
enough confectioners sugar to make a glaze consistency (a little less than 1 cup)

These scones were great with coffee!

I also made some granola bars today. I've been tweaking my recipe for a while and I think I've almost got it right.

I bought pumpkin scones at Kroger today, and they look kinda pitiful compared to yours. We'll get you plenty of molasses to take back in December!
