My least favorite thing about being a missionary

A month or so ago I deemed Mondays "prayer request day" on our blog. You may have noticed that some weeks the prayer request doesn't show up until Tuesday or Wednesday or not at all. If you assumed it is because there are days when the baby is feisty and the Mama is tired, you were right. So here is this week's Monday prayer request on a hot, dry, Tanzanian Tuesday:

My least favorite thing about being a missionary is asking for money.
It's the American in me. Our culture tells us to be independent. While hard work is a good thing, our obsession with it is cultural. We're embarrassed if we need help. So asking people to support you as a missionary can be awkward at times.

We are constantly amazed when people choose to support us, with one time or monthly support. We didn't plan on doing this. We don't have the right degrees from the right schools, just dreams about a better world and a big God. There are people who think we're a little too hippy and not enough textbook. So when people believe that God is going to use us here in Geita we are absolutely amazed and humbled.

The prayer request this week is for God's continued provision for our little family and the work here. We currently need an additional $550 per month to finish out our budget. God has always provided and always will. We'd love to have our budget complete, to know that those things are taken care of, but what we really want is to watch God provide with wonder and awe no matter how he decides to do it.

have you guys thought about doing a car wash in which carson wears daisy dukes and bares his midriff? i think you'd stand to make some serious coin.

or you could make a "men of the mcneal family" calendar?

and don't worry if you don't like those ideas; i'm still brainstorming. just trying to help, you know...
